A newborn photoshoot captures a window that lasts only days, not months. After four years of specialising exclusively in newborn, maternity and first birthday sessions in Pune, here's everything you need to know to plan yours - timing, what to wear, and the questions every new parent asks us.
When Should You Schedule Your Newborn Shoot?
The best window is 5 to 14 days old.
Newborns are naturally sleepier and easier to pose gently within the first two weeks. Their joints are still curled from the womb, which gives that classic soft, tucked-in newborn look. After about 3 weeks, babies grow more alert, startle more easily, and become harder to settle into poses.
Book your session before the baby arrives, ideally by your third trimester, so your preferred slot is reserved.
We'll confirm the exact date once baby is born, and build in flexibility around feeding and sleep windows.
Sessions may take extra time depending on baby's comfort, feeding, and soothing breaks - this is normal and expected.
What Should You (and Baby) Wear?
For newborn sessions, less is usually more - the focus stays on your baby, with soft wraps, headbands, and simple outfits provided by the studio as part of your package theme.
For the baby
We provide wraps, bonnets, and props matched to your chosen theme - no need to buy anything specially.
If you have a meaningful item (a family heirloom, a knitted outfit), bring it along - we're happy to incorporate it.
Keep baby's nails trimmed a day or two before the shoot for the cleanest close-up shots.
For parents and family
Solid, muted tones (cream, sage, dusty blue, soft grey) photograph best alongside baby.
Avoid busy patterns or logos that compete with the baby in frame.
Coordinate outfits loosely with your partner rather than matching exactly - it looks natural, not staged.
Don't forget
Feed baby just before arriving, or bring supplies for a feed during the session.
Pack an extra outfit for baby in case of any mid-session changes needed.
Come relaxed - a calm parent usually means a calmer baby.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it safe to pose my newborn like that?
Yes - safety and baby comfort are always the highest priority. Every pose is achieved gently, with spotting and support at all times, and we never force a position baby resists.
What if my baby won't stop crying during the shoot?
Completely normal, and we're prepared for it. We build in feeding and soothing breaks as needed, and we're happy to pause and restart until baby settles.
How long does a newborn session take?
Anywhere from 30 minutes for a Mini session to 2 hours for a full Signature or Heirloom experience with multiple themes - though newborn sessions can run longer depending on baby's mood, since comfort always comes first.
Can older siblings or parents be part of the photos?
Yes - our Signature and Heirloom newborn packages include family and sibling photos as part of the session.
What if my baby is older than 3-4 weeks - can we still shoot?
Absolutely, we still photograph babies well beyond the newborn window - the posing style simply adapts to a more awake, expressive baby instead of the classic curled newborn look.
Do we get the unedited photos too?
Signature and Heirloom packages include unedited JPEGs delivered alongside your edited gallery, so you have the full session to look back on.
