The best time to plan a maternity shoot is 28 to 32 weeks, when the bump is well-defined, you're not yet uncomfortable, and there's still enough runway to pick the right location, outfit and light.

STUDIO VS OUTDOOR: WHICH SHOULD YOU CHOOSE?

Studio gives full control over lighting, temperature and backdrop colour, ideal for soft, editorial portraits. Outdoor adds natural texture such as golden-hour light and greenery, suited to a more candid feel. Many of our Pune clients do both: a studio set for classic silhouette portraits, and a short outdoor segment nearby for variety.

PLANNING AN OUTDOOR MATERNITY SHOOT

Shoot at golden hour, the hour after sunrise or before sunset, for soft flattering light. Scout for open, uncluttered backgrounds such as gardens or quiet paths near Baner and Sus. Choose a location with minimal walking and flat, even ground, since comfort outranks a perfect backdrop at 30-plus weeks. Always keep a studio slot as backup for Pune's fast-changing monsoon weather. Keep the group small, and budget 60 to 90 minutes rather than longer.

COLOUR COMBINATIONS THAT PHOTOGRAPH WELL

Solid, muted tones photograph best, such as dusty rose, sage green, terracotta and soft neutrals. Match your outfit's undertone to the location: earthy tones for greenery, jewel tones like emerald, wine or navy for studio backdrops. Flowing fabric such as chiffon or georgette drapes better over the bump than stiff fabric. Coordinate rather than match exactly with your partner, and avoid busy prints and logos.
